Egg Decorating for Vegans!

vegan eggs

My neighbor has an awesome little Easter party every year for the kids. They have a blast dying eggs, decorating cookies and hunting for Easter eggs. This year she can’t have it :( and I was left wondering what I would do about the whole “egg” dying process. Especially since my daughter asks every day, every hour, when we can dye Easter eggs. So I went looking around AC Moore trying to come up with something for her to do, when I spotted wooden eggs. What a brilliant find! I had no idea these existed.

I wasn’t sure how these would take the dye, but I figured it was worth a try, at Continue reading →

Peta’s Ultimate Vegan Cheat Sheet

It’s beginning to feel a lot like fall around here. The air is getting a little cooler, the leaves are beginning to change and everywhere I look I see pumpkins and mums. It’s the time of year when I love to get in the kitchen and bake. Pumpkin bread, apple pie, muffins and whatever else I can think up. It’s also fitting that Peta just released its Ultimate Vegan Baking Cheat Sheet! Some of the tips you will most likely recognize, like replacing eggs with flaxseed, but you may not know that baking powder and oil is also a great egg substitute, I sure didn’t!

My Favorite Cruelty-free Bath Products

Replacing your old standby lotions, shampoos, cosmetics, etc., with cruelty-free brands can be a daunting task. There are a lot of products to weed through, some better than others. Then, there is the challenge of knowing if something is really cruelty-free. Many companies claim to be cruelty-free but obtain ingredients along the way from suppliers who DO test on animals. For products that are 100% cruelty-free from start to finish, always remember to look for the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics bunny logo.

Here are some of my favorite products! What are yours?

avalon organics lemon lotion

Lotion—Avalon Organics
I find two general problems with lotions. They are either so thick you can’t squeeze them out of the bottle or they are thin and watery and you have to spend hours rubbing it in to your skin. Not so with Avalon Organics! Their lotions are creamy and moisturizing without being overly thick. The perfect combination. My favorite scents are lemon and lavender.

eo shower gel

Body Soap—EO
I love this soap! It lathers up nicely and makes the whole bathroom smell wonderful.

natures gate shampoo

Shampoo—Nature’s Gate
You can easily spend a small fortune on cruelty-free shampoos; fortunately Nature’s Gate provides some relief to the wallet!  It has a wonderful scent and leaves my hair feeling soft and clean.

giovanni conditioner

Conditioner—Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat
I’ve tried several conditioner, but this one is my favorite. It doesn’t require a lot to work into my hair. It feels smooth and silky — and it smells so clean!

avalon organics essential lift
Facial Cleanser—Avalon Organics Essential Lift
This facial cleanser feels so luxurious going on your face, almost like velvet. After washing with it, my skin is clean, soft and smooth.

jason cocoa butter facial moisterizer
Facial Moisturizer—Jason
I bought this for my husband, but I use it everyday! I love the cocoa butter scent. It is very thick and absorbs right into the skin. (He likes it, too, so I’d better stock up!) Next up, I’ll be trying their tea-time anti-aging creme.

Baby Soap—Dr. Bronners
A friend of mine has been using this for a while and brought some over for me to try. I’m so glad she did! I love it! I need a tough, yet gentle soap to scrub out markers, paints, food and who knows what else from my toddler’s skin and this soap works like a charm.

alba self tanner

Self Tanner—Alba
The first thing I noticed about this sunless tanner was how good it smelled. I have never come across a sunless tanner that didn’t stink! This one moisturizes your skin nicely. In about 3 hours I started to notice a nice glow to my skin.

I’ll be doing more posts on the products I’ve found that I like so if you have any suggestions on things you like, I would love to hear about them.
